Our staff member managed to reach the foot of K2 which lies in the northwestern Karakoram Range. It is located in the Baltistan region of Gilgit–Baltistan, Pakistan, and the Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County of Xinjiang, China. The charity locations stretched from Rawalpindi to Gilgit and even included locations the red cross had briefly reached. This famous mountain has been forever tied to history as it formed part of the famed Silk Route. The villages and people were located at all points of the journey in the most remote and unexpected places, a real eye opener.
The primary goal of the charity was to meet various village leaders and elders to distribute rice, cooking oil and clothes for the young children.
Help was also given to the areas of the previous years charity visit, to check on built irrigation systems and to plan new locations in which to help other nearby and disadvantageous communities.
The people of each village demonstrated true community values with everyone always helping and providing beautiful smiles to remind us of how lucky we are back home.
It was a refreshing education for the whole team as the technology used was minimal, yet the efficiency used in any task by all of the communities was maximum. Sometimes the old unbroken way remains the best and happiness can be found in all corners of the globe.
